Home’s exterior upgrade for your dream home (8 ideas).

Your home’s exterior upgrade will increase its resale value if done correctly.

Upgrading your property is a big step towards making your dream home a reality, but many people aren’t sure what upgrades they should do for the best look and the resale value. It’s easy to get stuck between all of the different options. If you’re ready for a fresh look and want your home to catch the eye, these are eight upgrades everyone should try!

1. Allow Your Trim to Pop

If you’re worried your home blends in too much with your neighbors, there’s a quick way to fix this! The trim on any home is an underutilized space where you can get creative and make something incredibly gorgeous.

You can make your entire home pop by painting your trim a color that normally wouldn’t be.

The most obvious choice for this is going for black or dark gray on an all-white home, but you can get more creative than that if you want to.

2. Lighting Matters Outside Too

Lighting isn’t just for the inside of your home!

If you want to show off your properties, external lighting can go a long way. This can either be motion sensor lighting or lighting that’s on as long as the sun is down.

Not only does this type of lighting deter burglars, but it also shows off all of the hard work you put into the exterior of your home.

But be careful to avoid any lights shining at your or your neighbor’s windows!

3. Update Older Windows

Windows are the best part of a home because they connect us to natural sunlight and give us the opportunity to welcome the world into our rooms. Unfortunately, older windows also allow for temperature fluctuations and insect life.

Look at the health of your windows, and consider a window sash replacement for the ones that are leaky or cracked. The sooner you fix this, the sooner your heating and cooling bill will return to a reasonable number.

4. Get a New Roof

How old is your roof? Is it discolored? leaking? We all want our property to be as safe as possible, but many let it slide for longer than they should. If you wait too long, it can cause catastrophic issues.

Consider swapping your roof for a sturdy and long-lasting material like slate or metal, which can look awesome in any home. Most roofing companies offer a large range of colors and hues. Pick something that will work with the style of your property as well as your budget.

5. Finish Your Garage

Your garage should be the pride and joy of your home! This is where you can keep anything from your vehicle to your hobbies and whatever storage you need: it shouldn’t be an unfinished work in progress.

To make your garage pop, it’s a good idea to consider changes like epoxy garage floor paint and replacing your garage door. This update has the highest return on investment from any home change and can freshen the face of your home.

6. Make Your Porch the Center of Attention

Your porch is where you’ll welcome guests and introduce them to your home. It’s important that this space is not only cozy but also matches the inside of your home.

This can be pulled off with a fresh coat of paint, cute furniture, plants, and by updating your lighting and house numbers. If your home has a brick exterior, now’s the time to pressure wash and take off years of grime and pollen.

If you’re stuck on what to do, don’t be afraid to look up front porch ceiling ideas on sites like Pinterest or Instagram!

7. Consider Different Siding

What type of siding is on your home? How old is it? The average siding material only lasts twenty to thirty years, so you must check in on it and look for any cracks or warping that can happen over time.

Although replacing siding is expensive, you can change everything about how people perceive your home with this swap. Don’t be afraid to consider vertical siding vs. horizontally and whatever colors your HOA will allow!

8. Play With Textures

Textures can be a fun way to change up your property’s exterior! This doesn’t mean you need to cover your home in carpet, but instead you should play with the different types of greenery and materials out there.

Spidergrass is a fun and fluffy-looking plant, and it can look fun and playful against a home with lots of angles, like a ranch style. Don’t be afraid to try new things; you could consider making a mockup in a free design program.

Your Home’s Exterior Upgrade will bring you joy and will pay off at the sale of your house!
